(SPOT.ph) Iloilo City in Western Visayas is a mix of the old and new. Spanish-era churches like the Tomas de Villanueva Church and ancestral houses like the Molo Mansion are seen in between modern-looking museums and corporate buildings. Twenty-seven-year old Edimar Paclibar from Jaro reimagines these popular sites in Iloilo through leaf art or cutting thick leaves to make them into figures of places or people.
"I discovered this kind of art last July. I got fascinated by portraying a specific figure sa dahon kaya I challenged myself to make leaf artworks with figures that most people are familiar with," Paclibar tells SPOT.ph in an online exchange. He shares how he got overwhelmed with the positive reactions he received because of his works.
The architecture graduate and current project coordinator at Stone Depot has so far made leaf art inspired by the statue of Datu Paiburong at Iloilo Esplanade, statue of General Martin Teofilo Delgado at Iloilo Business Park, Arroyo Fountain, Campanario de Jaro, and Eusebio Villanueva Building at Calle Réal. He also made leaf cuttings of Catriona Gray, Liza Soberano, Mona Lisa—all of which you can see in his YouTube channel Ukit Dahon. One piece takes him about two hours to make. He prefers to use talisay or langka leaves because of their thickness.

Through his art, he hopes to spread positivity while improving his skills. "I focus on places around iloilo to further push myself...and also to show to everyone the beauty that our city [has to] offer," Paclibar adds.
