Following a recent cyber incident, the personal information of nearly 600 Department of Science and Technology (DOST) employees has been compromised, according to findings by the National Privacy Commission (NPC).

The NPC conducted an investigation after the DOST’s system was hacked, revealing that sensitive details including names, gender, civil status, and addresses were potentially exposed. Additionally, resumes of DOST applicants were among the data uploaded by the threat actor.

Warning the public against unauthorized access to the leaked data, the NPC emphasized the legal consequences of such actions.

Meanwhile, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) hinted that the hack might be linked to ransomware or political motives. Although this attack marks one of the largest against the government, its impact is deemed relatively contained compared to previous incidents.

In light of this breach, concerns over data security within government systems arise.
