Google to Train Filipino MSMEs and Kids in Digital Tech

Google has pledged its support to Filipino micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to help them establish an online presence and to provide training for over 100,000 Filipino children and their parents on responsible digital technology use.

During a discussion with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., Google’s global vice president, Karan Bhatia, confirmed the company’s commitment to assist MSMEs in navigating the digital world through a collaboration with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Google had earlier introduced Google Career Certificates (GCC) to the DTI’s virtual campuses, reaching over 1,300 Negosyo Centers across 16 regions in the Philippines.

Additionally, around 40,000 GCC scholarships were made available to Filipino youth, job seekers, MSME owners, and government employees in areas such as project management, cybersecurity, IT support, data analysis, UX design, and digital marketing.

During the same meeting, Bhatia announced that Google would launch a program aimed at educating over 100,000 Filipino children and their parents on the responsible and safe use of digital technology.

Bhatia also shared that Google plans to expand its operations in the Philippines, which already boasts 50,000 employees since its inception in 2013.
